Donald Trump, the President- Elect has announced the selection of Sean Duffy as the new secretary of department of transportation. Duffy has formerly been associated with Fox News as a co- host in its Fox Business venture.
Sean has also served in the House of representative till 2019 from Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District. Recently he had hosted the “The Bottom Line” as he joined the Fox News as a contributor.
While announcing this development, Donald Trump commended Sean as a “tremendous and well liked public servant and said that he was “a respected voice and communicator in the republican conference.”
He added, “He will prioritize Excellence, Competence, Competitiveness and Beauty when rebuilding America’s highways, tunnels, bridges and airports. He will ensure our ports and dams serve our Economy without compromising our National Security, and he will make our skies safe again by eliminating DEI for pilots and air traffic controllers.”
Sean during his time in the House served as the Chair of Sub Committee on Oversight and Investigations and was also on the house committee on financial services.
However critics point out that even after this, Sean still lacks the experience to run transport department as he has never had an oversight on that side of the government.
Sean’s appointment if confirmed by the Senate, he would be responsible for overseeing many important projects that the transport department is running including the high profile projects of Elon Musk who has been a close ally of Donald Trump in his ascension to the white House.
Sean Duffy will take over the department from Secretary Pete Buttigieg. Duffy had resigned his congressional seat in 2019 stating that he wanted to spend more time with his family ahead of the birth of 9th child as there were some complications with his wife’s pregnancy.
Interestingly, Duffy had introduced a bill that would have ensured presidential powers of Donald Trump to expand in order for him to impose tariffs. Now, Trump has vowed in this term to do so. This bill was thrashed by the fellow republicans but this move had made Duffy a loyal ally for Donald Trump.
